Zihuatanejo (see wah tah NAY ho) on the Pacific Coast of Mexico is about 144 miles (approx. 240km) northwest of Acapulco. Zihuatanejo has an old-fashioned charm of traditional Mexico full of culture. Zihuatanejo is located in the Mexican time zone which corresponds to the Central Time zone of the U.S.A.

Zihuatanejo's spectacular attraction is its well-protected bay of peaceful clear waters. This old world fishing village at Zihuatanejo Bay offers activities for relaxation, recreation, sport, dining or simply enjoy the beautiful scenery and local lifestyle. La Ropa beach is only five minutes from Casa Luna Llena. Zihuatanejo Bay has limitless activities, snorkeling, parasailing, jetskiiing, fishing, surfing or relaxing sunbathing. Enjoy classic coastal Mexican cuisine in the great open-air restaurants or thatched roof café on the beach. Seafood is the specialty here but all your favorites like pizza, steak and pasta are also available.

Visit the local markets and shops.  The Mercado Municipale (Farmers’ Market) features fresh fruit, vegetables, locally produced cheeses, and, of course, fish.  Don’t forget to pick up your locally grown coffee and vanilla beans.  Shop for a wide variety of Mexican handcrafted treasures.  Silver jewelry, carved and painted wooden items, hand-painted pottery, leather goods and traditional Mexican cotton clothing which is all hand-woven and embroidered are all available at the Mercado Artisanas (Artisan’s Market).

Take a walk from Playa Madera along the shoreline towards town and wander along the boardwalk starting at town’s edge, arriving at the main pier in time to catch a water taxi across the Bay to Playa Los Gatos.   Zihuatanejo boasts four different, distinct beaches and your biggest decision will be which one to visit today.  Or take a ride up and/or down the coast on local buses to any number of beautiful, quiet beaches that offer snorkeling, horseback riding or kayaking activities.

Wandering musicians can be found at the beaches and in restaurants. These musicians serenade you to romantic Mexican poetry set to music. Prices vary, and are negotiable. For a local treat, ask for the song "Zihuatanejo".

So what are you waiting for? Whatever you want, you can find it here!
